openEyA integrates different technologies under Linux O.S. (Ubuntu).

As of this date (October 2008), the cost for the implementation of an openEyA unit is 700 € or less each, including

  • 1 portable PC with Ubuntu Linux O.S. (e.g., low-cost Netbook 32 bits)
  • 1 digital camera (e.g., Canon PowerShot SX100IS) - See list of remote controlling cameras Also see this Canon page for a overview of which cameras have supported remote control.
  • 1 AC Power Adapter (e.g, Canon ACK-800 AC).
  • 1 webcam (optional if external - Linux UVC Driver)
  • 1 (in-line or USB) microphone
  • 1 small tripod (optional).

A key issue to carry out massive digital lectures recordings (besides to store, manage and share them), is to automate as much as possible the production and post-production processes to pull down all the costs. openEyA satisfies all these requirements in a way that has yet no similar.
